WRIF's Drew and Mike back together again

It’s the news many WRIF-FM (101.1) listeners have waited months to hear.

The station announced today that Drew Lane is returning July 13 to his morning slot next to Mike Clark for a rebooted version of the popular “Drew & Mike Show.”

WRIF CyberCrew members got the news this afternoon in a newsletter sent via e-mail. The announcement was later posted on the WRIF Web site.

“It just seems so natural, the rapport Mike and I have,” Lane told the Free Press this afternoon. “It’s like we’re at the ends of each other’s brains.”

Greater Media Detroit Market Manager John Gallagher told the Free Press this afternoon that Lane will have a multi-year contract.

“Our audience told us this is what they wanted,” he said.

After partnering with Clark and building one of Detroit’s most successful radio shows for 14 years, Lane went off the air in September 2007 to help care for his fiancée, Tess Schuster, who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Lane said Schuster is now doing well.

“She’s been wanting to get me out of the house for a while,” he joked, noting that he has been keeping up with news and pop culture events during his extended stay at home.

He also said he’s eager to start sharing his thoughts about recent developments in Detroit and elsewhere.

“I am really excited about how well the Detroit Tigers are doing and am looking forward to watching them make a pennant run. It made me sick thinking I might not have been on air for that.”
